A Prayer to Brighid During This Time

Times are terrifying right now as we continue dealing with this virus as best as we possibly can which is hard because our actions seem rather trivial and small. We can continue practicing social distancing and washing our hands, however that still leaves us feeling very out of control which in turn produces feelings of anxiety, helplessness, and fear. I'm not about to tell you that this virus isn't a big deal or that we can pray it away with positive thoughts as neither of those statements are true. In fact, in regards to the latter, I've had to unfollow multiple spiritual teachers because they were making such statements without mentioning the physical actions mentioned above.

I get it. We're scared and many people fall back on their spiritual beliefs. That's not a bad thing at all as I believe it's when we need them the most. However, as I refuse to make this post become a rant, I'm not going to discuss the above topic any longer. Instead I want to focus on utilizing our spiritual practices during this time which is why I chose to share a prayer I wrote for the Goddess Brighid.

For those who don't know Her, She is a Celtic Goddess, considered a Triple Goddess, who was turned into a Saint by the Church before eventually returning to Her rightful place as a Goddess.Yup...She's that powerful! The poor Church just couldn't eradicate Her following, which extended beyond Ireland, Wales, and England--just as the Egyptian Goddess Isis' cult extended well past the reaches of Egypt. You may find Her name spelled in other ways such as Bride, Bridey, and Brigit. She is considered by some to the daughter of the Dagda and the Morrigan! Brighid is the Goddess of Poetry, Healing, and Smithcraft which relates to Her Triple forms. As a Goddess of Healing, She has many sacred wells named for Her with the most famous being found at Kildare. Imbolc is traditionally Her festival.

This truly is only me skimming the most superficial surface when it comes to Her so if you're interested in knowing more about this incredible Goddess, I implore you to research Her as She truly is amazing and a powerhouse!

I chose Her as She is a Goddess of Healing--something we frankly are in great need of. Not just physically, though Goddess knows we need it!, but also mentally, spiritually, and emotionally. I would suggest lighting a single white candle for this prayer (or green as that is associated with healing) but you don't have to. You can just say the words as I believe it's our intention behind saying them as well as actually meaning them. Speak from the heart.

Triple Goddess whose flame brings transformation, healing, and inspiration, Blessed Maiden, Daughter of the Dagda and the Morrigan, healing is Your art and its that gift I ask for today. Not just for myself but all those affected currently by this pandemic. Raise them up and hold them close. Keep vigil by the bedsides of those ill and remind them that they are not alone. Give those fighting for their lives the strength of the warrior so their bodies can fight against this deadly virus. Let them heal and be well enough to return to their loved ones. For those who aren't so fortunate...hold them close and bless them.

Let this blessing extend far beyond the reaches of those who are sick as I ask that You calm the anxieties and fears that clutch deeply at people's hearts, acting as a soothing balm. Let Your compassion and light wash over them, feeling like cool water to a parched traveler. This is unknown territory for many of us and people are rightfully terrified. Help ease this as I know it won't fade away entirely--not because I have any doubts in Your power but because I recognize it's what keeps us following directions and the advice of health officials.

Bless those who rose to the challenge, whether willingly or not, who are the healers and those serving their communities to the best of their capabilities. May You work through them to guide, heal, and support us through this trying time.

May you likewise tend to those who suffer through mental illnesses as they may be deeply sensitive during this situation and their symptoms may worsen. I know what I ask is a lot and who am I to come before You? I do not ask for my own greed but instead for the healing of the global community as a whole.

Please heal those who are sick--both from the Coronavirus and other illnesses, elevate our hearts and spirits so we don't lose hope, and bless those who are doing what they can to aid their fellow brothers and sisters. Shower us in Your love and healing.

I thank you, Brighid, from the deepest reaches of my heart. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

You certainly can switch the words up however you see fit. This are just the words that came to me through both my own intuition and through Brighid. Similarly, you may find yourself leaving an offering to Her after the prayer and some of her favorites are: Grains, Milk, and Beer. Poems written to Her are also very nice and intimate! But...as you may not feel necessarily in the mood for poetry, the first three are good options.

Now...I know prayer can seem like a touchy subject at times but one of my favorite quotes (forgive the "God" language) is, "Prayer is when you talk to God; Meditation is when you listen to God.". I've seen it attributed to so many different people so I'm unsure who actually said it which is why, sadly, I will leave it as Unknown. (If you know the original source of this quote, please email me!) However, that's a beautiful sentiment, is it not?, and reflects precisely how I view prayer. It's a heart-felt message that you're sending to someone--whether that be a Deity, Ancestor, Angel, etc.. The words are not what really matter. Instead it's about the intention (why are you praying?) and the emotion behind it.

If you cannot find the words you want, focus on healing and simply ask Her to send Her healing to the world and those affected. Short, sweet, and still just as good.

I hope this prayer helps you as it did me. I know some things I may have mentioned above aren't necessarily Her domain, but I felt called to write them regardless.

You can either allow the candle to burn out or snuff it until you pray or invoke Her again.

Until Next Time,

Brightest of Blessings,

Britany | The Heart-Centered Hexe
