I thought I would pull three cards (ended up being four) for this approaching Mabon. I asked what message should we know before we enter into this sabbat? The Tarot cards leapt from the deck so I wasn’t going to argue with them. I’ll give you the individual messages from each separate card before the overall message I perceived.
First off, there is Temperance. This is all about moderation and balance as we can see the
angel balancing between earth and water. There’s a sense of charity and the need to care for others as I’m reminded of the phrase, “You can’t take care of others from an empty cup.” If you’ve been struggling to find a balance in your life, if you’ve been giving out more than you’ve been receiving, now is the time to pull away a bit so you can focus on yourself. The world needs our help. The people, Mama Gaia Herself, but unless we first tend to ourselves then we’ll be of no use to anyone. These past few months you may have even begun to feel as if you’re being pulled into so many different directions and now is the time to set forth some boundaries so you can ground and center yourself once more. It’s all about self-care, my friends.

Secondly, we have The Magician reversed. Something has happened within your life, some
event or circumstance, in which you feel powerless. Know that’s okay. We aren’t meant to be in control 100% of the time, 24/7 and 365 days a year. It’s okay. Have you been focusing too much on your problems and believe you are the only one able to handle them? This card could also refer to not having to go at this alone. Ask for help. Some situations are much bigger than ourselves and we must seek outside help. Trying to control and manipulate the situation alone isn’t necessarily the best course of action right now. Allow for help.

Thirdly, we have the Shaman who is reminding us that we must heal ourselves first. If you
have found you’re lethargic or unmotivated or depressed or whatever, ask yourself, “have I become separated from Spirit?”. While conventional medicine is good, we must also work to heal our spirits. Find activities that form and strengthen that connection. Do you feel connected to Spirit when you’re energetically and ecstatically dancing to a primal beat? Then dance. Do you feel connected when you’re walking in nature? Visit a park and walk. Do you feel connected as you help other people? Then help them. We are spiritual beings who are having a human existence and while that human experience definitely keeps us busy, we must nurture and tend to our spirits.

Lastly, we have The Spiral Dancer reversed. She is reminding us that life is a spiral with us coming back to the same points every year yet they are also different. We aren’t the same people we were last Mabon nor will we hopefully be the same next. Life is a dance as we continue going from point to point yet we are able to move higher and higher each year. If you’ve been holding onto something for so long simply because it’s what you’ve always been doing, now is the time to let go. Release it to the beautiful dance of life which is constantly changing, ebbing, and flowing. It’s not the Hokey-Pokey. It’s a sultry salsa as we move across the floor instead of being stuck in one single spot.
This reading screams to me about self-care and self-love. We want to help others and the world. We want to create change and impact our fellow brothers and sisters somehow. But…we can’t do that unless we are properly looking after our own selves. We have become conditioned to think that it’s unbecoming to give some attention to ourselves but there’s change in the wind. So many people now understand the benefit of self-care and that’s beautiful. However, self-care isn’t solely limited to physical well-being but also our spiritual connection. Allow yourself some alone time to pray or meditate. Carve time out of your schedule weekly for Spirit time. Moderation, Balance, Healing, and Releasing control can be hard but worth it. And remember: all because it’s what you’ve been doing doesn’t mean you have to continue. Mabon is a time of change, a time of balance, and a time when nature is reminding us the true beauty in releasing.
Brightest of Blessings, My Dear Friends,
The Autumn Witch
