What Does a Harvest Look Like to You?

Mabon is undeniably a harvest festival, especially as one of it’s nicknames is The Witches’ Thanksgiving. We are not only physically reaping the harvest sown in the spring but also harvesting the effects of our magick, our thoughts, and our desires. Mabon isn’t solely limited to a physical crop harvest but a harvest on a spiritual and mental caliber as well. This harvest looks different to everyone as it very much depends on what seeds you planted and tended to throughout the year. Maybe you meticulously cultivated each and every seedling or maybe you allowed some to dwindle since they were no longer what you desired? But what do you do when those manifestations you’d been carefully working towards all year don’t come to fruition? What does the harvest look like and mean to you when you don’t get what you hope for?

I’m sure you’ve heard the adage, “Everything happens for a reason” but that isn’t always reassuring, particularly when we’re disheartened and feeling downright discouraged. After all, we have poured our heart and energy into manifesting this goal and yet it falls flat. Did we mess up? Did we not do everything as we should’ve? Were we neglectful? I grappled with these questions myself and used to belittle and berate myself harshly! We are our own worse critics, you know! My most plaguing question was: How could I dare call myself a witch if I couldn’t manifest this goal!?! Like how dare I!

The simple truth is that it didn’t manifest because it wasn’t meant to be. It was never supposed to. It didn’t serve our highest good or we didn’t allow Spirit enough wiggle room which meant we were denying something far better for us. Aww…that is such happy, fluffy new age stuff. I’m sure that’s what you’re thinking right? Well, before “Everything happens for a reason” many people said “It’s God’s will” which still has the same kernel of truth for me in it. Have you ever heard the saying, “When we make plans, God laughs?”—it’s the same concept. We all have certain issues and situations we must go through during this lifetime which I believe we decided upon before incarnating into this life. Not everything is set in stone and we are able to change and manipulate a lot of it but there are some circumstances that must be experienced regardless.

Therefore, maybe you didn’t land that nice office job because you either needed to learn a lesson in humility in that fast-food job first (I’ve been there) or you are selling yourself short. It isn’t something you need. Maybe you are chasing it because of poor reasons instead of truly wanting it? Does that make sense? You could also be playing yourself short and thinking “well, I don’t really have (insert excuse) for that manager position so I’ll just play it safe with this position.” I once heard in a video from Shakti (I’m blanking on her name!) that “The Fates favor the bold.” Maybe this is the push you need to really take stock of yourself and own your inner Goddess—or God. Really own who you are and project yourself out into the world as the magnificent being you are! (I may be a Leo 😉)

We may not receive the harvest we desired because there is something so much better for us out there that we haven’t even contemplated—or we’re too scared to and Spirit is trying to nudge us out of our comfort zone. Change can’t happen if you aren’t willing to be bold and risky—to a degree. Don’t do anything too crazy please. It could very well be too that we’re clutching onto something that isn’t in alignment with who we truly are. It’s simply not good for us. It’s unkosher for our spirits. So, the next time you become upset about not landing that job, not getting that car, not landing a hundred dollars—ask yourself 1) “Am I in alignment with my authentic self” (Don’t sell your values!), 2) “Why do I want this?” (Get clear. You may find some surprises here! I once had something I didn’t realize went against my true self until I got clear here!), 3) “Am I truly willing to go for it and do the work? (You can do magick until the cows come home but if you aren’t going to physically work towards manifesting it, it will NEVER happen.) Magick is never a quick fix 😉 Also, remember it could be nothing on your part but simply be part of the contract you decided upon before incarnating.

Brightest of Blessing,

The Autumn Witch
