Morning Message for 9 July, 2020

Good Morning and Happy Thursday!

This morning I was running through my task list, finding ways to get more accomplished and what can be batched together. As the list seemed to only grow and I began wondering if I'd be capable of doing it all in the course of one day, I suddenly got the reminder to "schedule in" time for fun. For things I enjoy.

Then I remembered that we are not meant to always be productive. There's an obsession almost with pumping out as much work and content as possible, doing and having all the things, that we're wearing ourselves so thin. Even for those who have been allowing themselves to take it easy during this pandemic, there's still this overwhelming sense of wasting time.

This is your reminder that you are not a machine. While we have tasks we have to do, that need to get done, we also cannot always be productive. There has to be time for rest and play. For indulging in stuff that makes us feel alive, relaxed, and joyful.

Now as I go over my task list, I can recognize what absolutely has to get done today and everything else can wait. I'm not going to schedule in as much as I can today. I'm not sure if you're like me but I will literally micromanage my time so I fill it with stuff. Get rid of the notion that if you aren't filling every single moment with a productive task then you're wasting your time.

You. Are. Not. A. Machine!

Don't be afraid to leave time open.

Don't be afraid to reschedule tasks, if needed.

Don't be afraid to say no.

Stop thinking you can only enjoy yourself on the weekend.
